Laugarfell is operated by Páll Ásgeirsson and his wife, Hildur Einarsdóttir. While Páll, who has a B.A. degree in rural tourism, runs the daily business and communicates closely with clients, Hildur, who is an engineer, takes an active part behind the scenes.
Co-operation with the National Park of Vatnajökull is an important part of the running of Laugarfell. Páll’s experience from his work as a Ranger for the National Park is very valuable.
Hildur and Páll are passionate about Laugarfell and its beautiful surrounding nature. Their emphasis is on giving their clients excellent service and trusted guidence regarding the diverse and interesting places to visit in the area.
As Páll, who generally is known by his nick-name ‘Palli’, says: “My wife and I wanted to do something unique. Laugarfell is exactly that, as it is the only mountain hut in Iceland which offers both hot water and electricity. The warm geothermal water, which forms a part of this place’s identity, gives us the opportunity to offer our guests natural geothermal pools, right in our back-yard!” The nature all around is pure, magnificent and unique; glaciers, mountains and waterfalls, reindeer, geese and foxes. And in the midst of all that, Hildur and Páll can offer their guests modern facilities and comfort. In the Highlands, adventures take place!
