Hot Springs

Two natural hot springs are in Laugarfell, which give the place its name. The Springs are built from natural stone, the old traditional way. Giving them alot of charm. According to old folks tale, the warm spring water has healing powers.

Lovely Mountain Hut in Eastern Highlands !

Beautifully set in the Eastern Highlands, Laugarfell is a splendid mountain hut with two wonderful natural hot spring pools from which you can see Mt Snaefell on clear days.
Wonderful Staff who can recommend all kinds of hikes and sights in the surrounding area.

With no other inhabited farm around you can enjoy top notch hikes which are not overrun by other tourists, as for instance the waterfall circle trail which goes alongside a canyon and you get to see numerous waterfalls 😀

What a treat

We’ve emailed ahead and asked if they’re already open for the season (usually starts in June) and they were! So after a hike to popular and crowded Hengifoss we’ve arrived here in complete tranquility. We did the waterfall hike (beautiful!) and warmed up afterwards with a hot chocolate and some delicious chocolate cake and of course the hot tub. This whole experience is highly recommended and easily one of the highlights of our trip.

Roads are fine, they are paved so nothing to worry about. The hot tub fee is ISK 1500

Hike from Wilderness center to Laugarfell

We did a hike called the waterfall trail, starting at the Wilderness Center and ending at Laugarfell.

The hike is not very difficult but if you do not have experience in navigating, crossing streams and travelling on your own in the wilderness I would recommend doing it with a local guide.

Finishing the hike at Laugarfell was great, the staff is very welcoming and while we went to the hot springs to relax after the hike, they prepared an excellent meal for us(pre-ordered)…in the end a perfect day and I can not recommend Laugarfell more.

Early summer camping - perfect site

We stayed at this site camping for a night. It’s affordable and includes showers and the lovely hot tubs. The interiors look also very nice and don’t forget to take off your shoes! Loved it as we were fairly lonely compared to some other highland campsites in the highlands that are close to more known tourist areas. The sunset or better say the midnight sun with the hot tub was perfect
