Nestled in Iceland’s Eastern Highlands on the edge of Vatnajökull National Park, Laugarfell is your gateway to Snæfell, Askja, and Kverkfjöll — just 1 hour from the Ring Road. Open June to September, combine your stay with a scenic hike and a soak in our hot springs, with stunning views of Snæfell, Hafursfell, and Laugarfell.

Hot Springs
The view from the pools is beautiful, with Mt. Snæfell overlooking from the distance. According to old folk tales, the warm spring water has healing powers. Relaxing in the hot springs is a wonderful way to enjoy the peace and quiet of the bright Icelandic nights, after a day of hiking or sightseeing.
The springs are built from natural stones using old traditional methods, giving them a lot of charm.

The Icelandic highlands offer a range of activities to enjoy amidst the spectacular landscape. We have great selection of hiking trails all around the area, ranging from easy and challenging, well marked trails leading to some great waterfalls and also to Mt. Snæfell.

Accommodation & camping
Laugarfell accommodates up to 30 guests across 8 twin rooms, 1 bunk room, and 2 family rooms, all with shared bathroom facilities for a true mountain-hut feel. Geothermal heating and active recycling reduce our environmental impact. All overnight guests enjoy access to the natural hot springs — the perfect way to unwind after a day in the Highlands.

*Traveling from the North:
– Follow Road 1 toward Egilsstaðir.
– Before crossing the bridge into town, turn onto Road 931 toward Hengifoss.
– After Hengifoss, continue onto Road 933 for about 5 minutes.
– Turn right onto Road 910.
– Drive for approximately 40 minutes until you see the Laugarfell sign.
*Traveling from the East/South:
– From Egilsstaðir, take Road 931 toward Hengifoss.
– Continue onto Road 933 for about 5 minutes.
– Turn right onto Road 910.
– Drive for approximately 40 minutes until you see the Laugarfell sign.
*Via Öxi
– Follow Road 939 (Öxi), then continue on Road 95.
– Turn left onto Road 931 toward Hengifoss.
– Continue onto Road 933 for about 5 minutes.
– Turn right onto Road 910.
– Drive for approximately 40 minutes until you see the Laugarfell sign.
Winter Season
Open exclusively during winter, the hut is available only as a private full rental. Access is by super jeep only, as the road is closed throughout the winter season. It serves as an ideal base for super jeep adventures, snowmobile trips, cross-country skiing, as well as family gatherings, reunions, or team retreats.
Laugarfell is suited for guests experienced with mountain huts and winter conditions in the Highlands, or those travelling with a professional guide. The hut operates on a self-service basis, and all bookings are made via email.
